Learning French with Nick.

Nick Debray, French instructor at X School Le French Teacher
Nick Debray
French Educator · Le French Teacher

Nick is an experienced French educator known to Calgary families as Le French Teacher, and he teaches the way children actually learn: through action, laughter, and real conversation. In his classes, every word is paired with a physical action, so learners stay engaged the whole time and new vocabulary sticks. Lessons are immersive and playful from day one, and children begin speaking, not just memorizing, from their very first classes. Families who have learned with Nick describe kids who look forward to every lesson, chat to each other in French at home, and even perform plays in French for their parents.

Action-basedEvery word has a movement, so vocabulary is learned with the whole body and memorized faster.
Immersive & funLessons run with energy and laughter; engagement is the method, not a bonus.
Conversation firstLearners practice speaking and real back-and-forth from the earliest lessons.

Good to know

How the term works.

Attendance & missed classes

Because each lesson builds on previous learning, regular attendance is encouraged whenever possible.

If a learner misses a class due to illness, travel, or another unavoidable circumstance, they may attend Friday Office Hours to review missed material and stay on track.

Should X School need to cancel a class, a make-up lesson or equivalent instructional time will be provided. Tuition reserves your child's place for the full term and is therefore non-refundable after the term has begun.

Home practice

The greatest progress happens when classroom learning is reinforced at home.

Learners are encouraged to spend approximately 20–30 minutes each week reviewing vocabulary, watching lesson videos, and completing optional practice activities provided by the teacher.

This light, consistent practice helps learners retain vocabulary and develop confidence speaking French.

Continuing beyond the Fall

Our French program is designed as a continuous learning journey.

At the conclusion of the Fall Term, families will have the opportunity to continue into the Winter/Spring program, allowing learners to steadily build fluency throughout the school year.

There is no obligation to continue beyond the current term.

Testimonials

What learners and parents are saying.

We have been taking French lessons from Nick for almost two years now. These classes really are very fun, there is so much laughter during every class. And now, after less than two years, our kids can actually speak and have conversations in French. It's amazing to see. I remember at the beginning being totally floored that they were learning more in a single immersive class session with Nick than they had in a year or two of Rosetta Stone. All four of my kids (ages 7 to 15) are in the same class together, and they all enjoy it.

Lindsay M

My kiddos love Nick's classes! It's so much fun and they look forward to each class. Their French has improved significantly and they even speak to each other in French at home.

Ting B

Nick is amazing at what he does! My girls learned so quickly how to have basic conversations. Every word has an action so the kids are engaged the whole time and can memorize the words more easily! Would highly recommend for anyone with no experience at all. Your kids will thank you later!

Noémie Carignan

My kids have had lessons with Le French Teacher for 6 months and they have made amazing progress! He's a very talented teacher, and he always gets the kids laughing while they learn. 1000x better than another learning app.

Quinn Barber

Le French Teacher!!! He teaches with such a unique method and children learn so quickly. He is just a fantastic option.

Miriam Christine

He has a unique way of teaching French which works even with small kids. My daughter (13) is in her second year with him and she really enjoys going to French classes, not only because she learns the language in a fun way but also because of the group of friends she made there. At the end of last year they even performed a play in French with all the parents in the audience. Nick is an amazing teacher!
